OASE BioMaster PreFilter Foam: Choosing 30, 45 or 60ppi in SG

The clever part of the BioMaster design is its serviceable pre-filter, and these replacement foams are what keep it working. The porosity choice matters more in Singapore than many realise: in warm, productive tanks the coarse 30ppi foam clogs less quickly under a heavy bioload, while the fine 60ppi version polishes water to that crystal-clear look prized in display planted tanks. The 45ppi sits in between as a sensible all-rounder for a typical HDB community setup.

Because the pre-filter can be lifted out and rinsed without opening the main canister, you can clear mechanical gunk often, which matters at 27-29C where detritus breaks down fast and feeds nuisance algae. Rinse in old tank water to spare the bacteria living in the foam. A carbon pre-filter option is also available when you want temporary chemical filtration after medicating or to strip tannins.
