Keeping the Sparkling Gourami in Singapore
The Sparkling Gourami is one of the most charming nano fish we stock, a tiny labyrinth species famous for the soft clicking sound males make. Being so small, it suits the compact tanks common in HDB and condo homes, but it is easily intimidated. We always recommend a heavily planted, calm setup with floating cover and gentle flow, kept with peaceful tankmates rather than boisterous community fish that will outcompete it at feeding time.
This species naturally comes from soft, acidic, often blackwater habitats, which our soft local tap water suits well once dechlorinated. Singapore’s ambient 27-29C is comfortable, so most keepers run them heaterless, though as a labyrinth fish it gulps air at the surface and needs a calm, warm air layer above the water. Feed small foods like micro pellets, frozen baby brine, and daphnia, since their mouths are tiny.
See them in our gourami range, and plan the tank with our sparkling gourami aquascape guide and blackwater setup guide. Acclimate new arrivals carefully using our acclimation guide.
