SSS Mini Almond Leaf for Shrimp and Nano Tanks

These mini Indian almond (catappa) leaves are sized for the nano and shrimp tanks most Singapore hobbyists keep on a desk or shelf. As they break down they release tannins and humic compounds that gently lower pH and tint the water a soft tea colour, recreating the leaf-litter conditions Caridina and Neocaridina shrimp graze over. The decomposing surface grows a fine biofilm that shrimplets feed on constantly, which is exactly the slow grazing matter young shrimp need in a maturing tank.

Our tap water runs soft and slightly acidic, so a leaf or two suits SG shrimp keeping without heavy mineral adjustment, though serious Caridina lines still rely on remineralised RO. Drop a leaf in as-is and let it sink over a day or two, or pour over boiling water first if you want it submerged faster. Replace leaves as they soften and dissolve, usually every few weeks, watching that the tint stays light rather than turning your nano tea-dark. They’re a quiet, natural buffer rather than a dramatic one.

Browse more for your colony in our shrimp and invertebrates range. Our tannins benefits guide explains the chemistry, while the catappa leaf guide and our cherry shrimp care guide cover dosing and shrimp keeping in detail.
