Hints
APONOGETON BOIVINIANUSTuber plant from the Aponogenton family. This is one of the most attractive Aponogeton species for aquaria. Its vibrant green, transparent leaves are striking. The leaf blades have an extraordinary texture. As soon as the plant’s growth begins to slow, it is advisable to give the plant a period of rest, during which it needs cool water and dimmed light. The best way to achieve this is to move it into a small, separate aquarium for around 3 to 4 months. It is then ready to be replanted into your underwater landscape.
Keeping Aponogeton Boivinianus in Singapore
This Madagascan bulb plant rewards patience with large, vibrant green leaves that carry a distinctive crinkled, almost embossed texture, making a single specimen a genuine centrepiece. We rate it as one of the more striking Aponogeton species, but it is not a set-and-forget plant in our climate. It grows from a tuber and pushes leaves quickly once established, so give it room in a taller tank where the foliage can stretch upward without crowding neighbouring stems.
The tricky part in Singapore is the rest period it needs. After a burst of growth the plant naturally slows, and it benefits from a few months of cooler, dimly lit water to recover before replanting. With ambient tanks sitting at 27-29C, hobbyists usually move the tuber to a separate, lightly chilled container or a shaded spare tank to mimic that dormancy. Skipping the rest tends to exhaust the bulb over time, so plan the cycle in advance.
