TCulture Bucephalandra Batang Kapus in a Singapore scape
Batang Kapus is a wild-locality Bucephalandra named after its collection area in Borneo, and these locality types are exactly what serious local buce collectors hunt for. It carries the textured, slightly wavy leaves the species is loved for and makes a refined accent wedged into hardscape crevices. As an epiphyte it must sit on wood or stone with the rhizome exposed, never buried, and it draws all it needs from the water column, which suits our soft, slightly acidic SG tap water and low-tech tanks.
Like every buce it grows slowly, so treat it as a long-term feature rather than a quick filler. In our warm 27-29C water, moderate light and gentle, consistent flow keep the slow-renewing leaves clean of algae. A short melt after planting is normal as the rhizome acclimatises, after which fresh leaves emerge steadily. Its compact size makes it ideal for the nano and shrimp tanks so popular in Singapore homes, where it doubles as grazing cover.
