Bacter 100 is a substrate additive, containing more than 100 kinds of substrate bacteria in a dormant state. By sprinkling on the base substrate, it can make an ideal substrate environment. By applying on top of blue green algae, it suppresses the growth of it.

Bacter 100 is a substrate additive we recommend at setup, when you want to seed the soil with a broad mix of dormant bacteria before planting. Sprinkled onto the base layer it helps establish an active, balanced substrate environment that supports root health and breaks down organic matter, giving a new scape a faster, more stable start. The manufacturer also notes it can be applied over blue-green algae to help suppress its spread.

Because our tanks sit at a warm 27-29C year round, microbial activity ramps up quickly, so a little goes a long way; use it sparingly at the base and again when adding Power Sand or top-dressing. It is most effective as part of a layered ADA substrate system rather than a standalone fix. Keeping the substrate biologically active also helps shrimp and fish that graze the bottom find natural microfauna to nibble.
