AQUAPRO Inlet Strainer 12mm/16mm for Canister Filters

This PC inlet strainer fits 12mm and 16mm intake pipework and does two jobs at once: its fine mesh stops leaves, plant trimmings and larger debris from being drawn into your canister where they would clog the impeller and media, while still passing water freely for good gas exchange. For shrimp and fry keepers it is essential, since the fine mesh keeps small shrimp and baby fish from being sucked into the filter.

We fit a strainer like this on every planted and shrimp tank we set up, because losing shrimplets to an unguarded intake is a common and avoidable heartbreak. It also keeps debris out of the canister, which means longer gaps between cleans and steadier flow in our warm rooms where organics break down quickly. Give the mesh a quick rinse during water changes so it never blinds over and starves the pump of water.
