Prevent pH drop controlling type
Our most popular product, as well as the Soft Type M Size. A huge favorite of marine aquarium enthusiasts, as well as those who love discus, which are prone to causing the pH level to drop.
The main component of Powerhouse Hard Type products is calcium silicate crystalline wollastonite.
When water begins to oxidize, the product releases calcium ions, controlling the drop of pH level. Different from calcium carbonate (such as coral sand) which constantly emits calcium, the product releases calcium ions when necessary and controls drop in pH level, making it safe not only for saltwater fish and African cichlids, but also for aquarium for discus and arowana which tends to drop in pH level.
Powerhouse products offers high pH control capability and have vast amounts of surface area. Thus even small amounts of these products can conduct biofiltration.
However, by increasing the filter size and amount of filter media used, the filtering power can be increased proportionately. Amount of filtering media does not significantly affect pH change.

Powerhouse Hard Type M Filter Media for pH-Sensitive Tanks
Powerhouse Hard Type M is one of our most-asked-for biological media, and for good reason. Its ring shape packs a large surface area for beneficial bacteria, while the wollastonite-based ceramic does something clever: as water acidifies, it releases calcium ions to gently counter the pH drop. Unlike coral sand, which keeps leaching calcium constantly, it responds to falling pH, so it buffers when needed without endlessly hardening the water.
That controlled action makes it a favourite among local discus and marine keepers, where a creeping pH fall is a common headache. Singapore tap water is often soft and slightly acidic, so tanks heavy with driftwood, peat or dense fish loads can drift downward over time, and Hard Type M helps hold the line. Load it into your canister or sump as biological media, rinse it gently in old tank water at maintenance, and let a mature bacterial colony do its work undisturbed.
