Description
Echinodorus ‘Bleherae’
Echinodorus bleheri from South America is undemanding and beautiful, and becomes 20-50 cm tall.
A nutritious bottom promotes growth, but the plant needs pruning to prevent it depriving plants underneath of light.
Echinodorus bleheri does well even in poorly illuminated aquariums, as it grows towards the light.
It is a hardy and easy solitary plant for both beginners and the more experienced with quite large aquariums.
It has been sold under the name ”Paniculatus”.

Tropica Echinodorus ‘Bleherae’ in Pot for SG Aquascapes
Echinodorus ‘Bleherae’ is a classic, undemanding South American sword that makes a striking solitary centrepiece, reaching 20-50cm in larger tanks. It is genuinely beginner-friendly: it grows towards the light and does well even in modestly lit aquariums, which suits the low- and medium-tech setups many Singapore hobbyists run without pressurised CO2. Our ambient 27-29C water keeps it growing steadily, so it is an easy choice for a feature plant.
Bought in a Tropica pot, it arrives clean and ready to plant. We suggest gently removing the rockwool and splitting the roots before planting, then giving it room, since a healthy specimen gets large and can shade smaller plants beneath it. As a strong root-feeder it rewards a nutritious substrate, so add a root tab near the crown. Periodic pruning of the tallest leaves keeps light reaching the rest of your scape.
It belongs in our background plants range. For its close relative, see our Echinodorus bleheri care guide, and our low-tech planted tank guide shows how big swords fit a no-CO2 scape.
