How this scape works

Built around the hardscape, not a carpet — weathered stone and wood are arranged to give the resident fish room to patrol, with only the toughest salt-tolerant epiphytes softening the rock where most plants can’t grow.

Hardscape-led — stone ridges and wood set the structure that dense planting never could here.
Salt-tolerant greens — hardy java fern and anubias, among the few plants that take brackish water.
Room to roam — open sand and stone hollows give the fish space to hunt, shelter and patrol.

Why Gensou recommends this design

  • A true brackish biotope — the stone-and-wood hardscape is the scape, so it holds its look without a planted carpet to maintain.
  • Open sand and stone hollows give the fish room to patrol, hunt and shelter — natural behaviour on display.
  • Salt-tolerant epiphytes only (java fern, anubias) — low-maintenance greenery that actually survives brackish water.
  • Proven in a Singapore home — this design is based on a real Gensou build.
