Jun Platinum Soil – Brown

Elevate your aquascape with the distinctive Brown edition of Jun Platinum Soil — a rich, warm-toned volcanic substrate that brings depth and elegance to planted aquariums. Crafted in Japan and infused with nutrient-rich volcanic material, this substrate supports lush plant growth, healthy aquatic life, and aesthetic harmony in every tank.

Key Features:

  • Balanced Nutrients: Fortified with essential minerals to stimulate robust root development and intense plant coloration.

  • Natural pH Buffer: Gently reduces and stabilises pH and KH, creating the soft, slightly acidic water conditions valued by most tropical fish and shrimp.

  • Porous Structure: Promotes efficient water flow within the substrate and encourages beneficial bacterial colonisation for improved tank stability.

  • Clean & Ready to Use: Designed for ease of use with minimal cloudiness—just a light rinse is all you need.

  • Long-lasting Performance: Keeps its granule integrity and nutrient value for longer, maintaining a clean and stable base for your aquascape.

  • Warm Brown Hue: The brown tone provides a natural, visually soothing backdrop, enhancing the visual pop of green plants and colourful fish or shrimp.

Ideal For:
Planted aquariums, shrimp setups and aquascapes where aesthetic tone matters just as much as performance. Especially suited to natural-style layouts, wood and rock-scapes where the warm substrate complements driftwood, stones, and plant foliage.

Powder vs Super-Powder?
Here are scenario-based recommendations:

  • Use the Powder (2-3 mm) version when:

    • You have a more standard planted tank where you’ll use medium-to-large stem plants or background plants and you’re comfortable with standard root spread.

    • You want a substrate that’s a little more forgiving for beginners or general use.

    • You might be doing layout work or placing hardscape (rocks/wood) and want a substrate that is a bit easier to manipulate without so many fine particles.

  • Use the Super Powder (1-2 mm) version when:

    • You’re doing a high-tech aquascape with delicate foreground plants (e.g., carpets, fine-leaf stems) or shrimp that benefit from tighter substrate.

    • You’re building a layout with strong slope, detailed hardscape, or want more stability in the substrate layer (finer grains pack more tightly).

    • You’re seeking a slightly cleaner look in the foreground where fine granules may help plants anchor and reduce visual interruption.

Pro Tip: You can also combine them: use the Powder as a base layer and top with Super-Powder to give plants a fine-rooting layer at the surface.

Using Jun Platinum Brown Soil in Planted and Shrimp Tanks

Active aquasoils like Jun Platinum work with Singapore’s water rather than against it. Local tap water already runs soft and slightly acidic, and this volcanic soil gently lowers pH and KH further, creating the conditions that demanding plants and Caridina-type shrimp prefer. The warm brown granules also read as a natural base under driftwood and stone, which is why we recommend it for nature-style layouts as much as for its chemistry.

Active soils do leach ammonia as they first break down, so a fresh setup needs a proper cycle before livestock goes in, and an early water change or two helps clear the initial release. The granules are nutrient-rich for root feeders but will soften and compact over time, so think of it as a substrate with a working lifespan rather than a permanent base. Choose the powder or super-powder grade to match your plant and layout needs.
