Cryptocoryne Balansae Care in Singapore Aquariums

Cryptocoryne crispatula var. Balansae is one of the most elegant background crypts, sending up long, crinkled, strap-like leaves that sway in the current and create a reedy, naturalistic backdrop. Singapore aquascapers love it for taller tanks where it fills the rear with movement without the constant trimming that stem plants demand. Supplied potted, it establishes into a clump that throws runners over time, gradually forming a textured green curtain along the back glass.

Balansae is a hardy, easy crypt that tolerates a wide pH and hardness range, and it appreciates harder, more mineral-rich water more than many crypts do. It is a heavy root feeder, so a nutrient-rich substrate is ideal. Our 27-29C ambient temperature sits comfortably within its tolerance, needing no chiller. It grows without pressurised CO2 under moderate light. Plant it at the back, leave it undisturbed, and expect some initial melt before new submerged leaves emerge.
