Cryptocoryne Crispatula as a Singapore background plant

With its long, ruffled, grass-like leaves, Crispatula is one of our favourite crypts for creating height and movement along the back of a tank. Unlike short rosette crypts, it sends leaves streaming toward the surface, giving a flowing backdrop that sways with filter flow. We find it especially effective in taller HDB display tanks where the extra vertical reach hides equipment and frames midground hardscape.

Like all crypts it prefers a settled life, so plant it once into nutrient-rich substrate and leave it be. Our soft, slightly acidic local tap water suits it once dechlorinated, and root tabs reward it with longer, fuller leaves over time. Expect the usual transplant melt early on, then steady underwater regrowth. Ambient 27-29C is well within range, so no heater or chiller is needed in most Singapore homes.
