Hygrophila Odora for Singapore Background Layouts
Hygrophila Odora is an African stem plant we like for adding gentle height and a soft green texture to the back of a scape. With a medium growth rate and medium light and CO2 needs, it sits comfortably between the demanding red stems and the bulletproof beginner plants, making it a sensible step-up for hobbyists building a more refined background. Tissue culture supply keeps it clean of snails and pesticides.
Reaching well past 20cm in good conditions, it is best treated as a grouped background species, planted in a row so the stems support each other and read as a fuller mass. In our warm 27-29C tap water it appreciates a nutritious substrate and consistent dosing; trimming and replanting the tops keeps the group bushy rather than bare at the base in a home aquarium.
