Persicaria Praetermissum as a Background Stem in SG Aquascapes
Persicaria Praetermissum is a fast-growing stem plant that earns its place at the back of a planted tank, sending up slender shoots that form a lush green curtain. Under good light the new growth often picks up warm pink and orange tones, giving the rear of an aquascape a real lift. Like most stems it is best planted in groups and topped regularly, replanting the cuttings to thicken the stand into a full, layered backdrop.
As a vigorous grower it is hungry, so it does best with a nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs and benefits noticeably from added CO2 and bright light, though it remains workable in moderately lit tanks at a slower pace. Singapore’s soft, slightly acidic tap water suits it, and the warm 27-29C ambient is fine, though fast growth means staying on top of trimming so it doesn’t shade the plants in front of it.
