Bettas are surface feeders with small stomachs, so flakes that soften quickly and sit near the top suit how they hunt. A few flakes once or twice a day is plenty for a single fish in a nano tank.

Singapore’s warm 27-29C water keeps bettas active and their metabolism high, which means many keepers here run betta jars and small tanks without a heater. That steady warmth also makes overfeeding easy, and bloating or fouled water follows fast in a small volume. Offer only what is eaten in a couple of minutes and skip the occasional day to keep digestion regular.
