Keeping your biOrb running with the Service Kit

The biOrb Service Kit is the maintenance staple most owners reorder regularly: it pairs the biOrb’s bubble-driven filter cartridge, which combines mechanical foam with chemical media, with a dual-sided cleaning cloth for the acrylic. Because a biOrb relies on a single cartridge rather than a large multi-stage filter, keeping it fresh genuinely matters for water clarity and for the colony of beneficial bacteria that processes fish waste in such a compact volume.

In our warm 27-29C climate, biological activity runs fast, so cartridges load up sooner than in cooler regions. As a rule, change the cartridge on biOrb’s recommended schedule and never rinse it under chlorinated tap water, which can knock back your bacteria; use dechlorinated or old tank water instead. The soft side of the cloth is for the acrylic, since anything abrasive will leave permanent scratches on the curved globe.
