Description

Made from clear acrylic without any barriers, this breeder box allows for easy observation. It features a unique floating, keeps fish contained within the isolation area, protecting newborn fish. Designed as a hatchery for live-bearing fish like bettas and guppies, it helps prevent attacks from adult fish and increases juvenile fish survival rates.

Using the NF SL-02/03 Breeder Box in an SG Tank

In our shophouse fish room we reach for these little acrylic boxes whenever a guppy or platy female is about to drop, or when a nipped betta needs a few days of quiet recovery. The square SL-02 sits neatly in the corner of a nano, while the round SL-03 tucks into tighter HDB setups where every centimetre of glass counts. Because they float at the surface, water inside stays the same warm 27-29C as the main tank, so fry never get a temperature shock.

For livebearers, drop the gravid female in a day or two before she’s due and lift her out once the fry appear, since adults will eat their own young. With bettas, we use the box for short isolation rather than long-term housing. Keep the box near gentle flow so oxygen exchanges, but avoid parking it under a strong outlet that batters tiny swimmers around. Clear walls let you watch behaviour and spot problems early.
