TCulture Bucephalandra Medium Melawi for SG planted tanks

The Melawi varieties hail from the Melawi river region of Borneo, and this medium-leaved form strikes a nice balance, larger and easier to handle than the tiny buce types but still compact enough for detailed work. Its leaves often deepen to a dark green with a metallic sheen under good light. As an epiphyte, the rhizome stays exposed on driftwood or stone rather than buried, and because it feeds from the water column it settles comfortably into our soft, lightly acidic SG tap water without CO2.

This is a forgiving plant for local conditions, asking only for patience given its slow growth rate. In our warm 27-29C tanks, keep light moderate and flow gentle but steady so algae can’t take hold on the slow-renewing leaves. A brief melt after planting is normal while the rhizome adjusts, then new growth follows. The medium leaf size makes it a versatile midground accent that works in both nano and larger HDB-scale aquascapes.
