The black-trimmed PF 235, 285 and 355 are bare tanks aimed at keepers who want to choose their own filtration and lighting. The darker frame tends to recede visually and makes greens and reds in a planted layout pop, which is why we often suggest it for aquascapers building a display piece rather than a quick starter. With no built-in hood, you get an unobstructed rim to position hardscape, plant stems and run whatever equipment suits your plan.
These sit in the nano-to-small bracket, so they fit comfortably on a desk, sideboard or sturdy shelf in a flat. Remember a filled tank plus substrate is heavy, so check the surface can take it. Our steady 27 to 29 degree room temperature means a heater is often optional for hardy tropicals here, though shrimp and softer-water species still appreciate stable, dechlorinated water given our chloraminated tap supply.
