Working with Houyi Guo expanding foam for 3D backgrounds

This expanding foam cures using moisture in the air, which is one area where Singapore’s high humidity actually helps you. The foam grabs onto glass, PVC, rock and timber, so it is a flexible base for building 3D backgrounds, rock walls and terraced ledges in aquariums, vivariums and paludariums. The grey and brown shades read as natural stone or earth once you carve and coat them, giving depth that a flat printed background simply cannot.

Shake well and apply in thin passes, because it keeps expanding for a while and overfilling a cavity is the classic first-timer mistake. Let it cure fully and carve back the skin to expose a more porous, rock-like texture before you seal and silicone it in. For underwater use, cure thoroughly and rinse well so nothing leaches into the water, then bond hardscape and let everything settle before livestock go in.
