Flora Viv Blackwater is designed to simulate conditions of color and content of Amazon and similar forested river regions of South America, Southeast Asia and Africa. It is particularly useful as an aid to induce spawning and hatching of certain species of fishes native to those areas. It will tint the water a light yellow to a light brown color, depending on the amount used, reducing stress and improving color and vigor of fishes. FloraViv Blackwater contains naturally chelated iron, other minerals, and vitamins that will stimulate biological cycles in fishes and plants, without causing unsightly algae growth. FloraViv Blackwater contains no gluconates, or dangerous polycycloglutaracetal, or glutaraldehyde as some competing products do.

Use in aquarium keeping.
In planted aquariums, use FloraViv multinutrient fertilizer as your main plant nutrient source, then use this product, FloraViv Blackwater to provided humic, tannic and fulvic acids to support fish and plants. Simultaneous use of BacterGen F to establish and sustain growth of proper microorganisms and recycle aquarium nutrients will greatly benefit all fishes and plants.
Growth of all photosynthetic organisms also requires strong lighting of proper spectrum. Pay special attention when using Blackwater because, although it is an overall aid to plant growth, it can have a tendency to “shade” the aquarium, reducing the light available for plants.
Consult your lighting supplier for assistance in the proper type of light, and photo periods for the plants that you are growing. Be sure to ask lots of questions to get the very best lighting system for your aquarium.

Expert use.
Remove carbon and resin filtration because it may remove the Blackwater. Shake well prior to use. Add 1 capful (5 ml) per 20 US-gallons (200 L) of freshwater aquarium water once every other day as needed to provide the level of coloration that you are looking for. Consult texts on spawning habits for the species of fishes you are keeping to determine their requirements for blackwater and gradually increase color, as needed until spawning and hatching is complete. Gradually reduce dosing over several days to return the aquarium to normal.

Caution: Keep out of reach of children. Not for human consumption. If ingested drink water, contact a poison control center. If in eyes flush with water.

Continuum Flora Viv Blackwater for SG biotope and breeding tanks

Blackwater tanks have a strong following in Singapore, both for Southeast Asian biotopes like wild bettas and licorice gouramis and for South American setups. Flora Viv Blackwater simulates the colour and content of tannin-rich Amazon and similar forested-river waters, tinting the tank a light yellow to brown and supplying naturally chelated iron, minerals and vitamins. Many keepers find these conditions reduce stress and bring out richer colour and vigour in soft-water species.

It is also reached for as a spawning aid, since some species native to these environments cue off the softer, tannin-stained water. We like it as a convenient, consistent alternative to leaching botanicals, or alongside them when you want a deeper tint without waiting weeks for dried leaves to release. Build up tint gradually and keep an eye on your fish as conditions shift.

Pair it with our blackwater aquarium setup guide and our tannins benefits and management article. More options sit in our conditioners and medication range.
