Amazon Tonic recreates the botanical-rich, blackwater conditions that discus, tetras and other Amazonian species evolved in, releasing tannins and plant compounds into the column. We like it for keepers in Singapore who want the protective benefits of leaf litter without a tank full of decaying botanicals. The slight tea-tint it produces is normal and shows the active substances are working, gently lowering pH and softening the visual edge of bright tap water.

Because our tap water is already soft and slightly acidic, a measured dose goes a long way here, so start light and observe. It suits planted and species tanks where a natural water character is wanted, and it works well as a routine tonic after water changes rather than as a cure for active disease.
