ANS Malayan Driftwood XXL (70-80cm) for Showpiece Tanks

The XXL grade at 70-80cm is a true showpiece log for big display and competition-scale tanks, often spanning much of a five or six-foot layout on its own. A piece this large lets you build a single sweeping line of wood that smaller grades can only hint at, ideal for an exposed-root or fallen-tree theme. Before you commit, plan around its arrival: this is heavy, characterful wood, and the scape is built to suit the piece rather than the reverse.

Sinking a log this size is the main job. We anchor it with weighty stones or fix it to hidden slate while it slowly waterlogs over weeks, and a long pre-soak in a tub tames the heavy first tannin flush so your display does not turn deep tea overnight. In our warm tanks a biofilm bloom is normal at first and clears as bacteria and grazers establish across the large surface.
