Spider wood has many branches which offers ideal spots for aquatic plants to grow and provides a comfortable shelter for fish and shrimp. It is well-suited for freshwater aquariums. Decorating the driftwood with water plants will enhance your tank’s visual appeal. The wood may release tannins, which can cause a mild yellow or brown tint in the water; this is a natural process that fades over time. Boiling the wood before use can help reduce tannin release.
Important note: We recommend rinsing wood thoroughly before adding it to an established aquarium. If you prefer, you may also boil the wood for at least 1-2 hours to help release tannins.

Aquascaping with ANS Spider Wood

Spider wood is a favourite hardscape among local aquascapers for its fine, twisting branches that read like submerged tree roots and give a layout instant movement and depth. Those branches are also ideal anchor points for epiphytes: tie or glue on Anubias, bucephalandra, Java fern and mosses and let them grow over the wood into a mature, natural look. Each piece varies, so they suit everything from nano cubes to larger showpiece scapes.

Expect tannins. Fresh spider wood leaches a tea-coloured tint that is harmless and fades over time, though many keepers boil or soak pieces first to speed it up and to help the wood sink, as dry branches tend to float at first. New wood often grows a temporary white biofilm too; this is natural, shrimp and snails graze it, and it clears as the tank matures.
