Using Show Driftwood in a Singapore Aquascape
Show driftwood is a feature piece chosen for its branching, characterful shape rather than as a background filler. A single well-placed piece can anchor an entire layout, giving you a natural framework to drape moss, tie on anubias and ferns, and build a sense of depth. It is aquarium-safe and non-toxic, and the nooks and shaded hollows it creates double as welcome hiding spots for fish and shrimp.
Before it goes in, expect a settling-in period that is worth respecting in our warm tanks. New driftwood usually needs soaking to waterlog so it sinks, and it will leach tannins that tint the water a soft tea colour. Many aquascapers welcome that blackwater look and the slightly soft, acidic conditions it nudges toward, which sit well with our naturally soft local tap water. If you prefer clear water, larger or more frequent water changes during the first weeks clear the tint.
It is the kind of hardscape a scape is built around. See our full decorations range, and for working with it read our driftwood and moss aquascape guide and our tannins benefits and management guide.
