Description
Microsorum Pteropus ‘Trident’
Plant in 5 cm pot.
Microsorum pteropus or Java fern is from Asia.
Microsorum pteropus ‘Trident’ is a narrow-leaved, smaller form of Microsorum, which like other Microsorum is an easy and safe plant. ’Trident’ is both suitable for beginners, as well as the experienced scaper, and fits both smaller and larger aquariums.
The name ’Trident’ tells that the plant leafs are tripartite, while the leaves can vary from whole to multipartite.
Suitable for planting on stones or tree roots.
When planted on the bottom layer, avoid covering the horizontal stalk. New, small plants are often created on the leaf tips, and can carefully be pulled off and planted.

Microsorum Pteropus ‘Trident’ (Tropica Pots) Care
Trident is the fine, narrow-leaved Java fern, with deeply divided fronds that give a feathery, almost fern-bush silhouette quite unlike the broad common form. The Tropica pot arrives as a healthy emersed clump you can split into several portions. As an epiphyte it attaches to wood and rock; never bury the horizontal rhizome or it will rot. We tie or use a dab of gel glue and let the roots take hold over a few weeks.
It’s an undemanding, beginner-safe plant that grows steadily without pressurised CO2, ideal for the low-tech, heaterless tanks common in Singapore. Trident stays more compact than standard Java fern, so it suits nano and mid-size scapes where the big form would overwhelm. Expect some initial melt as emersed leaves convert to submerged growth; trim those and new tridented fronds follow.
