Attaching Selaginella Planna in an Epiphyte Layout

The Selaginella Planna Pot is sold for hardscape work, fixed to driftwood or rock rather than buried in substrate. We position it honestly as a spikemoss best suited to the emersed and splash zones of a paludarium or riparium, where its flat, spreading fronds can creep over wood with roots staying damp and foliage in humid air. It is not a long-term submerged plant, so keep it at or above the waterline.

Tie or glue the base to your hardscape and let it establish before expecting spread. Our humidity helps it cling and green up, but it still wants gentle airflow to prevent rot in stagnant corners. Once attached it forms a natural, mossy texture that softens hard edges and gives shrimp and small fish grazing surfaces at the water margin.

See more options on our epiphytes page, and learn placement with our epiphyte aquascape guide and moss attachment glue guide.
