Using ANS BacterPore MaxSuper Ceramic Rings in Singapore Tanks and Koi Ponds
The MaxSuper rings work hard because their deep, interconnected pore structure gives nitrifying bacteria far more surface to colonise than a smooth bio-ball. In our warm 27-29C water, bacterial colonies stay active year-round, so a well-packed media tray steadily converts ammonia and nitrite from heavy koi or community stocking. We see hobbyists run these in canister baskets, sump trays and pond pressurised filters alike, where consistent flow keeps the colonies fed and oxygenated.
Rinse the rings only in dechlorinated or old tank water before first use to clear ceramic dust, and never scrub them clean during maintenance, since aggressive rinsing strips the very bacteria you cultivated. Singapore tap water is chloraminated, so a quick swish in a bucket of treated water is safer than running them under the tap. Position the rings after mechanical sponge or floss so trapped detritus does not clog the pores prematurely and choke the colony.
Pair them with a stable cycle for best results. Browse our full filter media range, and if you are still maturing a tank, our nitrogen cycle guide and filter media guide explain exactly where porous rings fit in the chain.
