Its porous structure allows high water flow in between the beads and within the beads. This brings fresh oxygen into the filter media which will improve beneficial bacteria to breakdown both harmful ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.

The sphere is made of inert ceramic balls and does not affect pH of aquarium.
1.5kg (1bag) of Nano Sphere, can replace 5kg for normal ceramic ring.

Running ANS Nano Sphere as Biological Filter Media

The ANS Nano Sphere is a small-diameter porous ceramic media, and the point of the smaller spheres is to pack far more surface area into the same filter chamber. That extra surface is where beneficial bacteria colonise, so a 1.5kg bag of nano spheres can carry a heavier bioload than the same volume of larger rings. We like it in compact canister and hang-on filters where chamber space is tight but you still want strong biological capacity.

Seat the spheres after your mechanical sponge so they stay clog-free and water flows evenly through them. They work in both freshwater and marine setups, and the colony living inside them is what processes ammonia and nitrite during and after cycling. When you maintain the filter, rinse the media in old tank water rather than tap, since our chloraminated supply can knock back the bacteria you have spent weeks establishing.
