JBL SintoMec Bio Filter Media for SG Aquariums
SintoMec is a sintered glass ring media that gives beneficial bacteria a vast porous surface to colonise, which is exactly what drives stable biological filtration. In Singapore’s warm tanks bacteria stay active year-round, so a generous bed of high-surface media like this keeps ammonia and nitrite processing reliable even when stocking is heavy. We load it as a later stage in the filter, after mechanical foam has caught the coarse debris.
The benefit of the conical pore structure is that water is drawn deep into the rings rather than skimming past, so more of the colony does real work. Rinse it gently in old tank water rather than chlorinated tap, since our supply carries chloramine that will set back the bacteria you are trying to protect. Replace only a portion at a time to avoid a mini-cycle.
