Description

JUWEL Phorax is a highly effective filter medium used to break down phosphates in your aquarium. This effectively reduces the growth of algae and can contribute to improved plant growth.
Phosphate regularly gets into aquariums through fish food and are naturally very unlikely to be broken down. However, plants need only tiny quantities of phosphate for their natural growth (fresh water: 0.05 mg/l, saltwater 0.01 mg/l). Too much phosphate can, in some cases, trigger prolific algae growth.

Phorax consists of an aluminium mineral which binds dissolved phosphate by creating a water-insoluble aluminium phosphate and removing it from the water. This makes JUWEL Phorax highly effective, binding up to 12 mg of phosphate per gram of Phorax.

Juwel Phorax Phosphate Remover in Singapore

Phorax is a filter medium that binds phosphate, a nutrient that builds up steadily from fish food and waste and is otherwise very hard to remove. We point owners towards it when persistent algae will not respond to lighting and feeding tweaks alone, since excess phosphate is a common driver of nuisance growth on glass and slow plants in warm, brightly lit tanks.

It fits Juwel internal filters and works passively in the flow, so it is a low-effort addition for Lido, Rio, Vision and Primo owners. In planted tanks, go gently, because plants do need trace phosphate to grow, so the aim is to control an excess rather than strip it to zero. As always, pair it with regular partial water changes using properly dechlorinated tap water.
