This is a large, cut-to-fit sponge pad with activated carbon woven through it, which makes it a handy two-in-one for keepers fighting tinted or slightly cloudy water. The carbon helps pull out the yellow tannin tint that driftwood and botanicals release, while the sponge body provides mechanical polishing. At 40x50cm you can trim it down to line a hang-on, internal or canister tray, so one sheet covers several tanks or sizes.

In Singapore we see tannin staining a lot in blackwater and biotope scapes, and a carbon pad is a quick way to clear it when you want a brighter look for viewing or photos. Bear in mind activated carbon is a consumable, so its adsorption capacity is finite and it should be swapped every few weeks once exhausted rather than rinsed and reused indefinitely. If you are dosing plant or fish medication, remove carbon first, as it will strip the treatment out.
