XY-1831 Top Filter Wool for Overhead and Trickle Filters

The XY-1831 is a long roll of filter wool, cut to suit overhead and top filter trays at 100cm x 13.5cm x 3cm. Filter wool is the workhorse of mechanical filtration: it traps fine suspended particles and gives you that clear, polished water look that a sponge alone cannot. Because it sits at the top of the flow path, it also protects your biological media underneath from clogging with debris. The product notes suggest cleaning monthly and replacing roughly every three months.

For Singapore keepers running overhead filters, that polishing matters in warm water that tends to look hazy when organics build up. Rinse the wool gently in old tank water during weekly maintenance and reuse it until it loses structure, then replace. Avoid wringing too hard or you will mat the fibres and choke flow. Trimming the roll to size means one length covers several tray changes.
