Xinyou Cylinder Bio Sponge Filters (XY-2835 Series) for Pre-Filtration

This Xinyou cylinder series uses a nodular foam cartridge with no dead spots, and its strength is flexibility: run it standalone in a small tank, or fit it as a pre-filter ahead of an external or top filter to catch debris before it reaches your main media. We often suggest the latter to keepers tired of cleaning a clogged canister, since the sponge cartridge pulls out and rinses in seconds. The cartridge design makes routine maintenance painless.

For Singapore setups, using one as a pre-filter extends the time between full filter strip-downs, which matters when warm water turns uneaten food and waste over quickly. As a standalone air-driven unit it also oxygenates, helping offset the lower dissolved oxygen of our 27-29C tanks. Always clean the foam in old tank water to keep the bacterial colony alive, and soak new cartridges before fitting them.
