Fitting Glass Lily Pipes to a Canister Filter

Glass inflow and outflow pipes are as much about function as looks. The outflow’s curved spout sits just at the waterline to create gentle surface agitation, which helps gas exchange in our warm 27-29C tanks where oxygen holds less readily. The clear borosilicate also disappears into a planted scape far better than bulky plastic returns, which is why so many local aquascapers switch to glass once their layout matures.

Installation rewards a little care. Glass is fragile at the connection point, so warm the tubing and ease it on rather than forcing it, and route the pipes to spread flow evenly across the tank so there are no dead spots behind hardscape. Plan on regular cleaning too, since the transparency that looks so clean also shows every speck of biofilm and algae inside the glass.
