Keeping the Blue Gourami in Singapore
The Blue Gourami is the steel-blue colour form of the three-spot gourami, one of the toughest community fish we carry. Being a labyrinth breather it takes oxygen straight from the surface, which makes it well suited to warm SG tanks that can run a little low on dissolved oxygen on humid days. We acclimate ours before dispatch, and we’d ask you to float the bag and blend in tank water over about half an hour before releasing.
They thrive in our soft, slightly acidic tap water and rarely need a heater at our 27-29C room temperatures. Provide some floating plants or tall stems for cover, as gouramis appreciate broken sightlines. Mature males can get territorial, so give the tank length and choose robust, similarly sized tank mates rather than tiny nano fish.
Browse our wider tropical fish selection, and read our three-spot gourami care guide, our opaline gourami care guide, and our best fish for HDB aquarium guide before stocking.
