Golden Black Molly Care for Singapore Tanks
The Golden Black Molly is a striking colour form with a gold body and dark markings, a livebearer that adds movement and contrast to a community tank. Mollies are sociable and best kept in small groups with a couple of females per male to spread male attention. They graze constantly and appreciate algae, blanched vegetables and a quality flake, sitting comfortably in the middle and upper water column.
Mollies prefer harder, more alkaline water and are noticeably happier with a touch of mineral hardness, which is worth knowing given our local tap water runs soft and slightly acidic; remineralising lightly suits them well. Our 27 to 29C ambient temperature falls within their range, so most SG tanks keep them heaterless. Be ready for fry, as livebearers breed readily, and provide planted cover for the young to hide.
Add them to a cycled, settled tank and acclimate slowly. Browse the wider guppies and mollies range, read our molly fish care guide and guide to hardening soft water, and follow our acclimation guide.
