Using EIHO Aquarium Coarse Salt for fish health in SG tanks

Sun-dried coarse aquarium salt is a staple in many Singapore fishkeepers’ cabinets, valued for supporting slime-coat protection and helping fish recover during simple treatments. As a guide, a 0.1% concentration means adding 50g to 50L, but we always advise measuring with a salinity meter and tailoring the dose to the species, since some fish and many plants are far more salt-sensitive than others.

Treat in a separate quarantine or hospital tank wherever possible, as salt is hard on live plants and some scaleless or soft-water species. Dissolve the salt fully in a cup of tank water before adding it gradually, never dumping crystals onto fish. In our warm climate, where fish ship and acclimate under heat stress, a measured salt bath is a common first response, but it is a supportive measure, not a cure-all.
