Red Beckford Pencilfish Care in Singapore
The Red Beckford pencilfish is a slender, peaceful nano fish that swims in the upper levels with a calm, hovering grace. The males flush a warm red along the body, a colour that deepens beautifully over dark substrate, tannin-stained water and dim, planted surroundings. They are gentle and a little shy, so we suggest keeping a group of six or more and pairing them with equally mild tankmates like small rasboras, ember tetras or shrimp rather than boisterous fish that will outcompete them at feeding time.
Their small mouths need correspondingly small foods, so micro pellets, crushed flake and the occasional live or frozen treat keep them in condition. They thrive in soft, slightly acidic water, which our local tap supply leans toward naturally, and our 27 to 29 degree ambient sits right in their comfort band without a heater. Acclimatise gently after transport, as pencilfish are sensitive to abrupt changes.
