Fire Red Shrimp are a high-grade color variation of Neocaridina shrimp, prized for their deep, solid red coloration that covers the entire body. They actively graze on surfaces, feeding on algae and biofilm, making them helpful cleaners in planted aquariums. A tank with moss, plants, and hiding spots allows them to feel secure and reproduce. They thrive in peaceful community setups without predators and do best in stable, mature aquariums with consistent water conditions.

Fire Red Shrimp: The Easy SG Beginner Shrimp
Fire Reds are where most Singapore shrimp keepers start, and for good reason: this solid-red grade of Neocaridina is hardy, breeds readily, and grazes biofilm and algae across your hardscape all day. They tolerate a wide parameter band, so they forgive the small swings a new keeper makes while learning. We still insist on two non-negotiables, a fully cycled tank and absolutely no copper, since copper-based medications and some plant ferts wipe out a colony quickly.
Our local tap water sits a little soft for them, so we remineralise toward moderate hardness to support clean molts and bright shells. Ambient 27-29C is on the warm side of their range; a clip fan or shaded spot helps in a hot HDB flat, and heavy planting with moss gives babies cover so the colony multiplies. Stable water beats chasing perfect numbers every time.
