It is made from pre-washed natural sand minerals and stays inert, so it will not alter your water chemistry, leaving hardness and pH entirely in your hands. Because the grain is fine, keep the layer shallow and lift it gently during maintenance so anaerobic gas pockets do not form underneath. We always rinse fine black sand until the water runs clear before laying it to avoid early cloudiness.
