Keeping the Mountain Crystal Tetra in SG planted tanks
The Mountain Crystal Tetra is a small, gleaming schooling characin that catches the light beautifully when kept in numbers against dark substrate and planting. We recommend a group of at least eight or more, since these tetras are shoaling fish that feel secure and behave naturally in a crowd, drifting through the midwater and reflecting that crystalline sheen the species is named for across an aquascaped tank.
This is a forgiving fish for Singapore keepers: it takes well to our soft, slightly acidic tap water and our steady 27-29C ambient warmth, so many planted setups can run heater-free for it. As always with small tetras, we acclimate gradually by floating the bag and mixing in tank water in stages before netting them across, and we dechlorinate fresh water to neutralise the chloramine in our local supply before every change.
Browse the wider tropical fish range for schooling companions, and read our gold tetra care guide for a comparable small characin, plus the water change guide and beneficial bacteria explainer to keep them thriving.
