Rummy Nose Tetra is a popular choice for live plant keepers and Discus fish keepers. The rummy nose tetra is very peaceful and can make excellent community tank mates if housed with similar sized and non-aggressive species. They do best in schools of 6 or more and may stress if not provided with hiding places and aquarium plants (plastic or real). They have a red coloured nose and it can be quite striking to see a school of them swimming around a tank.

How To Safely Add Fish To Tank
- Set live stock aside with transportation bag in room temperature place for 30 minutes.
- Then transfer bag to float in aquarium for another 30 minutes
- Use a fish net to transfer the live stock by scooping it from the bag into the tank.
Note: Do not release live stocks together with the transportation water into tank.
Keeping Rummy-Nose Tetra in Singapore Aquariums
The Rummy-nose Tetra is prized for its bright red nose and the tight, synchronised schooling it shows when settled. That schooling is also a health barometer: a relaxed shoal with vivid red faces signals stable water, while pale noses warn of stress or poor parameters. They do best in soft, slightly acidic water, which suits Singapore tap once it’s properly dechlorinated, and in a group of at least eight to give them the numbers they need.
Our ambient 27-29C is well within their comfort range, so many local tanks run them without a heater. They are an established, somewhat sensitive species that rewards a fully matured, well-cycled tank rather than a brand-new one, so resist adding them too early. Feed a varied diet of micro-pellets, flake and small frozen foods to keep colour and condition up across the shoal.
Acclimate carefully using the drip method in our acclimation guide, and confirm your tank is ready with the nitrogen cycle explainer. For full details see the rummy-nose tetra care guide, and find tankmates in our tetra fish range.
