Tropical Terraclay Brown reptile substrate in Singapore

Terraclay Brown is a 5kg sand-and-clay mix with added calcium carbonate, made for recreating the firm, diggable ground of desert and steppe habitats. The 3:1 sand-to-clay ratio is what gives it the edge over loose sand alone: lightly dampened and packed, it holds shape, so burrowing species can dig tunnels and basking animals get a stable, natural-looking surface rather than a shifting bed.

For Singapore keepers this is very much a dry-environment substrate, so the main job is managing our humidity inside the enclosure. Desert and steppe setups need good ventilation and a strong basking gradient to keep the clay surface dry and prevent the damp, stale conditions that arid species struggle with. Build the layout to give animals both a warm dry zone and a cooler retreat, and let the surface dry out fully between any misting.

This is part of our turtle and reptile range. To plan an enclosure, see our desert terrarium setup guide and our Singapore terrarium build guide for managing local humidity.
