The Salifert Oxygen Test for Warm-Water Tanks

Dissolved oxygen is easy to overlook, yet it sits at the heart of why fish gasp at the surface on hot afternoons. Warm water simply holds less oxygen, and Singapore’s ambient 27-29C pushes many tanks toward the lower end of comfortable. This Salifert kit measures oxygen across a 2-14 mg/L range and works for marine, freshwater and even pond water, so you can confirm whether your aeration is genuinely keeping pace with your stock.

Run the quick test in good light and read against the scale. Low readings point you toward more surface agitation, an extra airstone, or better flow, all of which raise gas exchange. This is especially useful overnight, when plants stop producing oxygen and respiration draws it down, and during monsoon power cuts when pumps stop and oxygen can crash in a heavily stocked tank.
