Instructions:
Before each use, shake the bottle, remove and salt scale from the nozzle, and discard the first 3 drops. Cap the bottle tightly after each use otherwise the value will increase tdue to evaporation.

Keeping Salinity Accurate with Salifert Refractometer Calibration Solution

A refractometer is only as trustworthy as its last calibration, and this Salifert 35ppt reference solution is what we recommend reef keepers use to keep theirs honest. Refractometers drift over time and with temperature, and in Singapore’s warm rooms that drift matters: an instrument reading a couple of points off can leave you mixing saltwater too strong or too weak without realising, stressing corals and invertebrates that are sensitive to salinity swings.

Calibrate against this known 35ppt standard rather than plain RO water for a more reliable reef result, since a single-point calibration at salt-level beats calibrating at zero. Shake the bottle, discard the first few drops, and cap it tightly straight after, because evaporation in our warm climate concentrates the solution and throws off the value. Store it sealed and check your meter regularly, especially before mixing a fresh batch of saltwater.
