Echinodorus ‘Kendedes’ care in Singapore aquariums
This is a slender-leaved Echinodorus variety that lends a softer, grassier look than the broad-leaf swords, which we find useful for filling the mid-to-background of a planted layout without the heavy footprint of an Amazon sword. As with all Echinodorus it grows from a central crown, so plant the roots into the substrate and leave the crown sitting at the surface. Spread several plants for a fuller group, and give each enough room as the rosette widens over time.
It is an adaptable, hardy plant that handles a broad range of water conditions, which suits Singapore tap water and the typical community tank. At our ambient 27-29C it grows steadily in unheated setups. Like other swords it feeds heavily through its roots, so a nutrient base or root tablets pay off, and the emersed nursery leaves will be replaced by submersed ones in the first couple of weeks, with some early melt being normal.
Find it among our stem plants selection. For feeding and placement we’d point you to our sword care guide and root tabs guide; new arrivals should be eased in using our plant acclimatisation guide.
