Can the bag for filter material be cleaned?

The inserted filter material and the dirt in the filter can make the filter material bags (JBL FilterBag fine & wide) very dirty. To restore their original colour and purity, immerse the bags in JBL PROCLEAN POWER for 30 minutes or alternatively wash them in the washing machine and rinse them thoroughly with clear water.

JBL Wide Filter Bags for Coarse Canister Media

The wide-mesh version of JBL’s filter bag is made for coarser biological media like sintered glass rings or ceramic noodles, the SintoMec and Cermec types that carry most of your beneficial bacteria. Bagging this media means you can lift an entire layer out of a canister or sump in seconds to rinse it, rather than fishing pieces out by hand and disturbing the rest of the stack.

Each bag holds around half a litre to one and a half litres and the nylon is water-neutral, so nothing leaches into the tank. In Singapore’s warm tanks, bio-media clogs with mulm faster than many imported guides assume, so easy removal genuinely matters for keeping flow strong and the colony fed. When the bags themselves discolour, a soak in a filter cleaner restores them.
