Description
Lilaeopsis Brasilensis
Lilaeopsis brasiliensis from South America can grow very compact, but a “lawn effect” (4-7 cm tall) is only achieved at high light intensity.
When planting in the aquarium small clumps (approx. 1/8 pot) should be placed a few centimetres apart to help the plants grow together more quickly.
Place in an open position without shading from other plants to ensure good light.
Lilaeopsis brasiliensis can be used in garden ponds, and also tolerates low salt concentrations in brackish aquariums.

Tropica Lilaeopsis Brasiliensis: A Grass-Like Foreground Carpet
Tropica’s potted Lilaeopsis brasiliensis is a fine, grass-like foreground plant that forms a low, lawn-style carpet when grown well, giving a planted aquascape that open, meadow feel. Supplied as a clean, healthy Tropica pot, it lets you split the clump into small portions and plant them spaced apart so they knit together into coverage over time. It is a popular choice for nano and mid-size scapes where a tidy front carpet really lifts the layout.
Carpeting plants like this reward strong, even light and benefit greatly from CO2 and a nutrient-rich substrate to stay compact rather than leggy. In Singapore, give it good lighting and keep it unshaded by taller plants, and remember our chloraminated tap water must be dechlorinated. Plant small clumps with tweezers, be patient through the establishment phase, and trim to encourage horizontal spread.
For success, read our how to plant carpet plants guide, and if you skip CO2, our carpet without CO2 guide sets expectations. See more in our foreground plants range.
